A massive fire broke out at a restaurant in the Kalkaji area of the Indian capital Delhi. After the fire broke out early on Sunday (June 14), it quickly spread throughout the building. At that time, three commercial LPG cylinders exploded, causing panic in the area.
This information was revealed in a report by Indian media outlet NDTV. The fire department said that the fire broke out at the ‘Punjabi Tadka’ restaurant located near the Govindpuri Flyover in Kalkaji at around 4:45 am local time. After receiving the information, multiple units of the Delhi Fire Service quickly reached the spot.
Although six fire units were initially sent, realizing the extent of the fire, the incident was declared a ‘Mech-4’ fire and additional units were deployed. Fire officials said that the fire started in the basement of the building and spread beyond the ground floor to the third floor. A temporary structure built on the roof of the building was also gutted in the fire.
Meanwhile, a 75-year-old woman named Sita Devi was trapped on the second floor of the building when the fire broke out. Firefighters risked their lives to rescue her amidst thick smoke and flames and brought her out safely.
A total of nine fire units were working to control the fire. These included a water-powered fire tender, water bowser, breathing aid unit and a multipurpose rescue vehicle.
The fire department said that the fire has now been completely brought under control. However, cooling operations are ongoing to reduce the temperature inside the building and prevent the fire from spreading again. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The authorities concerned have launched an investigation into the incident.
