Cricketer harassment: Case against 3 including SI, 1 arrested
A case has been filed against three people including a police sub-inspector (SI) for allegedly detaining, beating and harassing Bangladesh national cricket team spinner Naeem Hasan while posing as a police officer. Khulshi police have arrested one person after completing the case. Cricketer Naeem Hasan’s brother Sabbir Hasan filed the case at Khulshi police station in the city on Friday (June 12) night. The accused in the case are – SI Shafiqul, Constable Russell and Source Sohel.
Khulshi police station officer-in-charge (OC) Arifur Rahman told Banglanews that SI Shafiqul Islam did not inform him about the operation in advance. He came to know about cricketer Naeem’s identity only after he was brought to the police station. After learning about the matter, Naeem expressed regret and left the police station with dignity. He also said that Naeem had informed him that they would not leave the police station until those involved were punished.
Later, Naeem’s brother Sabbir filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff in this incident. After the case, the accused Sohel was arrested. Meanwhile, SI Shafiqul, Constable Russell and another constable were dismissed this Saturday (June 13) morning for allegedly beating and harassing Naeem Hasan, said OC Arifur Rahman.
