Prime Minister on the way to Cox’s Bazar

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has left for Cox’s Bazar on a one-day visit. He left for Cox’s Bazar by plane from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday (June 13). This is Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Cox’s Bazar after taking oath as the Prime Minister after the BNP won a majority in the February elections.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka from the President’s Gulshan residence at 8:45 am today. He then left for Cox’s Bazar by plane. Upon reaching Cox’s Bazar, the Prime Minister will begin her program by inaugurating the re-excavation of Patli Canal in PMkhali Union at 10:30 am and will address a rally there.
As per the day’s program, the Prime Minister will participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony and a public meeting organized by the local BNP at Chakaria Bus Terminal in the afternoon and a closing rally in the evening. Tarique Rahman will also visit Marine Drive Road. He will lay the foundation stone of the much-awaited Pekua Municipality and Matamuhuri New Upazila. There is great enthusiasm among the general public and party leaders and workers of the district surrounding the Prime Minister’s visit. They are also expressing their expectations.
The expectations of the people of Cox’s Bazar include upgrading the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway to six lanes, establishing a public university, ensuring fair price for salt and taking effective initiatives for the repatriation of Rohingyas. In addition, the locals have sought the Prime Minister’s intervention to develop the tourism sector, full use of the international airport and protect the dry goods industry.
In addition, the locals are demanding a sustainable dam to protect Kutubdia, a bridge over the Maheshkhali-Cox’s Bazar canal, stopping drug smuggling and barbed wire fencing at the border. It is worth noting that tight security arrangements have been tightened surrounding the visit of the head of government. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and local leaders and workers have already visited the rally site and various development project areas.
