The court has acquitted cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi in a case filed on charges of adultery and cheating. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam announced the verdict today (June 10). Bench Assistant of the concerned court Ashutosh Bhowmik confirmed the matter.
In response to the verdict, plaintiff Rakib said, “What the judge was saying while announcing the verdict today seems to be premeditated. He gave the verdict after saying two or three things. The verdict mentioned various evidence and 10 witnesses, but he did not read any of them. I am not satisfied with this verdict.”
At the same time, plaintiff’s lawyer Israt Hasan is angry with this verdict. She said that she will appeal against this verdict in the High Court. After the verdict was announced, she complained that for several days the accused had been saying in various ways that they would be acquitted with this verdict.
Still, we continued the case with faith in the law. Even the plaintiff in the case told me at various times that he did not have money. I assured him of justice. The PBI investigated the case and got a complaint against them. Lawyer Israt Hasan said, if an adulterer and a fraudster is given such indulgence, it is injustice to the plaintiff.
Nasir-Tamima appeared at CMM Court No. 5 in Dhaka at around 11:45 am today before the verdict was announced. Later, after the verdict was announced, they were taken to the CMM Court’s internal detention center for a while under a large police guard. Later, from there, they left for their respective destinations.
At the time of the verdict, the defendant’s lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu and a few others were present in the court. The plaintiff in the case, Rakib, was also present in the court. After hearing the arguments of the plaintiff and the defendant on May 6, the verdict was set for today.
On that day, lawyer Israt Hasan for plaintiff Rakib, lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu for Nasir, and lawyer Mosleh Uddin Jasim for Tamima presented their respective arguments in the court. During the hearing, the plaintiffs requested the maximum sentence for them. However, the lawyers for the defendants claimed their innocence and requested for their acquittal.
According to the details of the case, Tamima and plaintiff Rakib got married on February 26, 2011. They also have an eight-year-old daughter. However, while in a marital relationship with Rakib, Tamima got married to cricketer Nasir Hossain on February 14, 2020.
When Tamima and Nasir’s wedding picture went viral on the internet on February 14, 2021, the matter came to Rakib’s attention. Then on February 24, Rakib filed a case in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court under sections 497, 500 and 34 of the Penal Code. On September 30 of that year, the investigating officer Sheikh Mizanur Rahman submitted a report against the three in the court.
The trial of the case began with the framing of charges against Nasir and Tamima on February 9, 2022. However, Nasir’s mother-in-law Sumi Akhtar was acquitted in the case. On March 6 of that year, their lawyer Kazi Nazibullah Hiru filed a revision against the order to frame charges against Nasir and Tamima in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
