Budget to be presented in parliament tomorrow, Thursday
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in parliament tomorrow, Thursday (June 11) afternoon. This is the first budget of the Tarique Rahman-led BNP government. The government plans to formulate a budget of Tk 938,000 crore.
The expenditure is increasing due to increasing global risks, increased expenditure on subsidies and social security programs, pressure on interest payments and implementation of the recommendations of the new salary structure for government employees.
Although priority is given to economic recovery, investment and employment growth, one of the biggest challenges of the budget is the record deficit of Tk 243,000 crore. The target has been set to bring inflation down to 7.5 percent in the next fiscal year. 67 percent of this money has been kept for operating expenses.
In addition, this money will be spent on ADP, loans and advances and the food sector. The NBR is the most relied on in terms of financial resources for budget implementation. Then there is domestic debt, foreign debt and other sources.
