Two farmers die in lightning strikes in Narail
Two farmers died in two separate lightning strikes in Lohagara upazila of Narail. The incidents took place in the Shalnagar and Nawapara areas of the upazila on Saturday (June 6) afternoon. The deceased are Titul Khan (50), son of Moti Khan of Shalnagar village, and Babul Molya (42), son of Billal Molla of Nawapara village in Naldi union.
According to family and police sources, Titul Khan, a resident of Shalnagar, left his house to water his cows from the banks of the Madhumoti river at around 3 pm yesterday. At that time, heavy rain started along with lightning. Around 5 pm, locals found Titul Khan lying on the ground. Some parts of his body were burnt and blood was pouring from his ears. He was rescued and taken to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
On the other hand, Babul, a resident of Nawapara village in the same upazila, had gone to fish in the Ichamati beel at around 4 pm. It is believed that he was seriously injured in a lightning strike in the afternoon and fell unconscious on the spot. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Narail District Hospital, where the doctors of the emergency department there declared him dead at around 7:30 pm. Police Inspector (Investigation) of Lohagara Police Station Ajit Kumar Roy confirmed the deaths of the two. He said that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the families after completing the legal process.
