Earlier, Md. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury was reportedly excluded from contesting the election of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA) over issues related to alleged loan default and banking complications. According to sources, objections were raised regarding his financial liabilities, ultimately resulting in his exclusion from the election race.

However, his successful participation in the Chittagong Chamber election and subsequent election as vice-president have sparked fresh debate among business leaders and economic observers. Many are questioning how a candidate facing similar allegations was allowed to contest and secure a key leadership position in one of the country’s leading business organizations.

Members of the business community believe the matter raises concerns regarding the scrutiny and verification process followed during chamber elections. They argue that stronger verification of candidates’ financial status and banking records is necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in business leadership.

Attempts were made to contact Md. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury for his comments on the matter. Calls were placed to his mobile phone; however, he could not be reached for a response. Observers believe that if no clarification is provided, the controversy surrounding the issue may intensify further.
