7-year-old child sexually abused in Nangalkot, gang-raped by businessman

A local businessman named Ziaul Haque (55) has been accused of sexually abusing a class 3 student (7) in Nangalkot, Comilla. The incident took place on Sunday evening (May 24) in Omarganj Bazar of Heskhal Union of the upazila. The abused child was attending a local madrasa. Accused Ziaul is the son of Patwari Abdul Mannan of Heskhal Union of the upazila. After the incident, locals gang-raped her, but she is currently absconding.
According to local and eyewitness sources, the child had come to Omarganj Bazar to buy mosquito coils on Sunday evening. At that time, accused Ziaul Haque lured the child inside the shop and tried to sexually abuse her by showing various obscene videos from his mobile phone. The locals were keeping an eye on him as there were previous allegations against Ziaul. After the locals beat him, he ran away when it suddenly started raining.
The victim’s family refused to speak out due to self-respect. Nangalkot Police Station OC Arifur Rahman said that the police had reached the spot. It was not possible to arrest the accused as he had fled. Necessary action will be taken if the victim’s family files a written complaint.
