The Palestinian Authority said on Saturday (May 16) that Hamas military chief Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed along with his wife and daughter in an Israeli air strike in Gaza. The Israeli military said on Friday that Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed in a targeted attack in Gaza City last Friday.
Hamas later confirmed the killing of its military chief in a statement, saying Haddad, born in 1970, was killed along with his wife and daughter. The statement described him as a central figure in the war. A joint funeral was held yesterday at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Mosque in central Gaza for Haddad, his wife and their 19-year-old daughter. Israel has repeatedly attacked Gaza since the ceasefire began.
Israel carried out at least two attacks on Gaza last Friday, killing seven Palestinians, including three women and a child. At least three more were killed in two separate Israeli air strikes yesterday. Doctors said two people were killed in a car attack near Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and another was killed in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the country.
