The United States could attack Cuba at any time
The United States could attack Cuba at any time. According to the media outlet Axios, such an indication has been found in the comments of US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The media outlet reported this information in a report on Tuesday (May 12). The report said that President Trump is increasing pressure on the Cuban government. And the threat he is making to attack the country may become a reality.
In 1962, the then Soviet Union and now Russia deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The United States learned about this. Then they imposed a naval blockade on Cuba. Since Cuba was close to their territory, the United States saw this deployment of nuclear missiles as a threat to their national security.
If Trump attacks the country now, it will be the biggest conflict between the two countries since 1962. Last week, the media outlet CNN reported that the United States has increased its surveillance flights over Cuba since last February. The US imposed new sanctions on the country last week, which the Cuban foreign minister called a “full-scale punishment” for genocide.
The situation in Cuba has been extremely fragile in recent months due to the US energy embargo. The situation in Cuba has worsened since the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by US troops earlier this month. The country gets most of its oil from Venezuela. The Axios report also said that Brazilian President Lula da Silva said that Trump personally told him that he had no plans to attack Cuba.
But last Friday, Trump said that a warship returning from the Middle East could be deployed near Cuba. Trump told his close aides that if the warship was deployed and taken to Cuba, the country would surrender. There were fears of an attack on Cuba even before the Iran war in the Middle East. But when the US turned its attention to Iran, the attack was stopped.
