After many protests and demands, the work of repairing the dilapidated road from Tamanna Mor to Wapda has started in Syedpur, Nilphamari. In addition to the poor quality work, the renovation work is being done while keeping 15 electric poles on the road. In this situation, local residents have demanded that the electric poles be removed and the road be constructed quickly.
According to the municipality sources, the road renovation work will start from November 25, 2025 at a cost of about Tk 29 crore. With the allocated budget, about seven kilometers of road renovation work is underway from Tamanna Mor to Wapda and from Medina Mor to Basunia Mor. A contracting company named Sammi Builders of Rangpur is doing this work.
The two roads were full of potholes for a long time. There were electric poles on both sides of the road. Locals had been demanding for a long time to remove the electricity poles from the road and repair the road. Despite the demand, the road poles were not removed. However, Syedpur Municipality Executive Engineer Shahidul Islam said that the poles will be removed before the road work is completed.
Today, Tuesday (May 12), it was seen on the spot that road renovation work is underway on the seven-kilometer road from Tamanna More to Shilpa Sahitya Sangsad Road through RCC casting. There are multiple electricity poles in the middle of this road. Due to the electricity poles, pedestrians and vehicles are at risk on that part of the road. Local residents have demanded that the poles be removed, but the concerned authorities are not taking any action, it has been alleged.
Mamun, a businessman adjacent to Shilpa Sahitya Sangsad, said that renovation work is underway with multiple poles left in the middle of the road. Despite repeated requests, the poles are not being removed. If the road renovation work is completed with electricity poles left in the middle of the road, there will be no end to the suffering of the people.
Another businessman, Monowar Hossain, said, “I don’t understand how they are working without removing the electricity poles from the road. But I understand this much that this is happening because there is no mayor in the municipality.” Former councilor of ward number 6 of the municipality, Fekumia, said that renovation work is underway by installing several electricity poles in the middle of the road. The executive engineer of the municipality should ask the concerned authorities to remove the poles and reduce the suffering of the people. In this regard, Shahidul Islam, executive engineer of the Saidpur Municipality, said that the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) authorities have been asked to remove the poles. It is hoped that the poles in the middle of the road will be removed within the next 15-20 days. In this regard, Selim Hossain, executive engineer of the Saidpur NESCO, said that no one has applied from the municipality to remove the electricity poles from the road. If an application is made, the poles in the middle of the road will definitely be removed for the convenience of the people.
