Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel wants to reduce its dependence on US military aid over the next 10 years. In an interview with US media CBS News, Netanyahu said that he wants US financial military aid to be gradually reduced to zero.
He said that Israel currently receives about $3.8 billion in military aid annually. There is an agreement with Washington to provide the country with a total of $38 billion in aid from 2018 to 2028. However, according to Netanyahu, it is time to reassess US-Israeli financial relations. And now there is a need to strengthen relations with the Gulf countries.
The report also noted that public support for Israel in the United States has declined since the war in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023. A survey showed that 60 percent of Americans have a negative perception of Israel. Netanyahu claimed that Israel’s image has been damaged by the influence and propaganda of various countries on social media.
Regarding Iran, he said that if the current Iranian government weakens or falls, then groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis could also fall. At that time, he was asked if it was possible to overthrow the Iranian government – in response, Netanyahu said, “Possible? Yes. Definitely? No.”
