Work underway to expedite police clearance services: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the process of providing police clearance certificates, online GDs and other services is ongoing and work is being done to ensure that no such reports are received in the name of police clearance as happened in the past. He said these things at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (May 11) on the occasion of ‘Police Week’.
The Home Minister said that in the current changing world and social reality, the police system is no longer limited to preventing crime alone. The police must build a relationship of trust and confidence with the people and become true friends of the people. He also said that it is necessary to establish a cyber unit in the Bangladesh Police. To this end, the government is working to establish a cyber security crime unit integrated to combat cyber and financial crimes. He added that an additional IGP-level officer will be appointed as its head.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister also said that the government will set up two major training academies in Jangal Selimpur, one of which will be for the elite force. The Home Minister said, we have had to be embarrassed in many ways in the past. In the last two to two and a half months, the police have made a lot of efforts to overcome it. And we think they have been able to restore their image. He also expressed hope that the police will maintain this image.
In addition, the Home Minister said that the capacity of the Tourist Police is being enhanced to ensure the safety of tourists for the development of the tourism industry. He said, we have not yet achieved a good reputation. The senior officials of the Tourist Police, the IGP will all take coordinated initiatives again so that the image of our country increases and the number of tourists increases.
