Iran, US to hold talks next week
The Wall Street Journal reported that stalled talks between the US and Iran are likely to resume next week in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. The report, citing people familiar with the matter, said that the two sides are trying to finalize a one-page 14-point memorandum of understanding with the help of mediators. The goal of the month-long talks based on the agreement is to end the war.
The draft proposal includes discussions on Iran’s nuclear program, reducing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the possibility of transferring Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile to another country. However, several key differences remain. In particular, the two sides continue to disagree on the extent of sanctions relief, which could ultimately derail the talks, the report said.
