Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that a special operation by law enforcement agencies has been launched nationwide from May 1 to control drugs. The Home Minister said this at a press conference after the first meeting of the National Committee on Coordination, Management and Law and Order of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Citizens at the Secretariat today, Monday (May 4).
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Home Ministry. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting. In response to journalists’ questions about the long-standing allegations of syndicates in controlling drugs, the Home Minister said, “Maybe you think so. We are still in the process of restructuring.”
Although officers of the Narcotics Control Department are in the operation, it is not only the Narcotics Department that is conducting this operation, other agencies including the Police-RAB are also participating in it and providing assistance. Drugs have spread in the country, which did not happen in a day. We have started a strict operation to get rid of this situation. Progress is being made every day in this regard. Along with drugs, we are also conducting joint operations against weapons and extortion. The police are also conducting separate operations.
Asked if there is any special operation plan in this regard, the Home Minister said, “These are special operations. We started this from May 1 and are conducting it across the country. Now, instead of arresting users among those involved in drugs, we are making arrangements to arrest big traffickers and those who bring drugs across the border. Those who are addicted are relatively easy to catch.”
