Tourist dies after being swept away by water current at Banshbaria Beach in Sitakunda

A tourist named Md. Mehraj (19) died after being swept away by water current at Banshbaria Beach in Sitakunda. He drowned in the water while bathing around 5:30 pm on Friday (May 1). He was rescued around 7:30 pm and taken to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Md. Mehraj is the son of Mosharraf Hossain of Purba Madarbari area under Doublemooring Police Station in Nagar. He was an HSC examinee of MES College. Police said that Mehraj had gone for a walk with a classmate to Banshbaria Beach.
He drowned in the water current while bathing at the beach in the afternoon. Other tourists searched for him for a long time. His body was found around 7:30 pm. Later, he was rescued and taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. SI Md. Russell said that at the family’s request, the body was handed over to the family for burial without an autopsy.
