Illegal goods worth around Tk 4 crore destroyed in Akhaura
The customs authorities in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, have destroyed illegal and un-auctionable goods worth around Tk 4 crore. These goods were destroyed in the customs house area of Akhaura Land Port on Thursday (April 30) afternoon.
The customs authorities said that these goods, seized by the BGB and the police at various times, were lying in the warehouse and were posing a risk to public health and the environment as they were not auctionable. Among the destroyed goods were a total of 17 types of goods, including rat-eaten and spoiled Indian sarees, three-pieces, medicines, banned fireworks, bidis, cigarettes. The estimated market value of these goods is around Tk 4 crore.
Md. Atiqur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of Comilla Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate and Member Secretary of the destruction committee, said that this destruction activity is part of the regular and legal process of the customs department. Only those illegal and prohibited imported goods seized by law enforcement agencies that are not eligible for auction were destroyed. A total of 946 GR goods were destroyed, most of which were illegal Indian fireworks.
