There is a risk of landslides in Rangamati due to continuous heavy rains for several days. To ensure the safety of life and property, the local administration is conducting awareness campaigns and campaigns in landslide-prone areas of the district town from Wednesday evening (April 29).
The district administration has said that the risk of landslides increases during rains. Therefore, to avoid loss of life and property, the district administration and Rangamati Municipality authorities are coordinating public awareness campaigns and campaigns in landslide-prone areas of the city. When the rains start, people living in the foothills are being asked to take shelter in safe places as soon as possible. According to the administration, more than a hundred areas in Rangamati have been identified as risky.
Every year, various steps are taken in these areas before the monsoon season. When heavy rains start, families at risk are evacuated to the nearest shelters. In addition, about 50,000 people are still living at the risk of landslides. Rangamati Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nazma Ashrafi said that public awareness miking is being done to avoid any kind of accident due to landslides. It is worth noting that on June 13, 2017, 120 people, including five army personnel, were killed in a terrible landslide in Rangamati. Then, in June 2018, 11 people, including two children, died in a landslide in Naniarchar and in June 2019, three people died in Kaptai.
