MP caught eating in parliament session room

Untitled design (14)

Eating is not allowed in the main session room of the National Parliament of Bangladesh. In order to maintain the discipline and dignity of the members of parliament during the session, it is not customary to eat, drink, drink tea or do any other type of eating activity there.
Today, Tuesday (April 21), during the session, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed saw a member of parliament eating something. Seeing it from a distance, he asked the member of parliament through the microphone without mentioning his name. He also wanted to know if he was drinking tea or not. In response, the member of parliament said that he was drinking hot water. In response, the Speaker said in an angry voice, ‘God knows what else he will eat later.’
However, it was not immediately known who the member of parliament was, because the TV camera was not pointed at that. The rules of procedure of the parliament do not specifically say that eating in the session room is prohibited. However, according to Rule No. 311, the parliament room cannot be used for any purpose other than the session of the parliament. Since eating and drinking is not part of the formal session of Parliament, eating in the session hall is against this rule. Such a practice is not seen in Parliament.
There is a separate cafeteria and dining facility inside the National Parliament Building. Where members of Parliament, officials and employees and authorized persons can eat.
