Member of Parliament Rumin Farhana criticized the new government in the parliament for taking a loan of Tk 44,500 crore in just 52 days of assuming responsibility. Quoting a report by Bangladesh Bank today (April 21), Rumin Farhana said that the government has now become overly dependent on bank loans. She wanted to know whether the government has any plan to deal with this situation.
In response, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, ‘This loan is being carried from before.’ That is, it is a continuation of the loan left by the previous government. This loan is not the result of any action by the current government. The minister also said, ‘BNP’s economic policy is to gradually reduce loans from local banks. You will see the reflection of this in the next budget.’
