Tehran claims US plane destroyed in rescue operation
Iran has claimed that several US military aircraft were destroyed in an operation to rescue a missing US pilot.
On Sunday (April 5), Iranian military and security agencies said that several aircraft were destroyed in a “failed” operation to rescue a US pilot who was stranded in the country’s southern province of Isfahan.
The Iranian news agency Tasnim News reported that the destroyed aircraft included a US Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and two Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Earlier, a report in the US media The New York Times said that US forces themselves destroyed two transport aircraft after they malfunctioned inside Iran.
