At least 13 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the war-torn Palestinian territory of Gaza Strip. The dead include two children, a pregnant woman and 9 police officers.
Al Jazeera reported that a house in the Nusairat refugee camp in central Gaza was hit on Sunday (March 15). Al-Aqsa Hospital said four people were killed. They included a couple in their thirties and their 10-year-old son.
The hospital said the woman was pregnant with twins. The fourth victim was a 15-year-old boy from a neighboring house. “We were sleeping. Suddenly, we were woken up by a missile. The impact was very strong. There was no prior warning,” said local resident Mahmoud al-Muhtaseb.
The Interior Ministry said another attack on a police vehicle was carried out at the entrance to the town of Az-Zawaida in central Gaza, near the north-south Philadelphia corridor. Nine police officers were killed in the attack, including Colonel Yad Abu Yousef, a senior police officer in central Gaza. Al-Aqsa Hospital confirmed the death toll. The hospital said 14 others were wounded in the attack.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement: “We strongly condemn the heinous crime committed this afternoon by the Israeli occupation forces in the form of a bomb attack on a police vehicle. The police officers who were killed were carrying out their duties of supervising the market and maintaining law and order during the holy month of Ramadan.” There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the two attacks.
