- Event comes as India targets 300mn t capacity by 2030 and 500mn t by 2047
The Ministry of Steel will host Bharat Steel 2026, an international conference and exhibition aimed at strengthening cooperation across the global steel value chain, on 16-17 April 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event is intended to bring together policymakers, steelmakers, miners, investors, technology providers and startups from around the world to engage on the future direction of the steel industry.

The initiative comes as India positions itself as a central player in the global steel ecosystem while pursuing a significant expansion of domestic steelmaking capacity over the coming decades.
Companies and delegates from more than 15 countries are expected to participate in the event. India is targeting steelmaking capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030 and 500 million tonnes by 2047, ambitions that would substantially expand its role in the global steel market. Already the world’s second-largest steel producer, the country is seeking to drive the next phase of growth through stronger international partnerships, technology exchange and investment flows.
Bharat Steel 2026 is designed to bring together stakeholders across the steel ecosystem, including producers, raw material suppliers, equipment manufacturers and downstream consumers, to explore opportunities for collaboration and growth.
The conference agenda will focus on expanding steel consumption, strengthening raw material security, accelerating technological innovation and enabling investments for capacity expansion. Discussions will also address the development of green steel ecosystems, sustainability and decarbonisation, value-added steel products, infrastructure and mobility, and the transition toward a circular steel economy.
These themes reflect the steel industry’s response to climate imperatives, evolving trade dynamics and the growing demand for higher-quality and specialty steels.
The event will feature a range of structured engagement formats, including country roundtables, CEO roundtables, state roundtables and plenary sessions. These platforms are intended to facilitate discussions on policy frameworks, investment opportunities, regional strengths and cross-border cooperation.
A reverse buyer-seller meet will also be organised to enable business-to-business engagements, allowing companies to explore partnerships, market access and long-term commercial relationships across the steel value chain.
Sustainability and value-chain integration are expected to be key areas of discussion. Industry experts and company leaders will examine pathways to decarbonise the steel sector through responsible mining practices, expanded recycling frameworks and the adoption of low-carbon technologies, while maintaining competitiveness and profitability.
The conference will also highlight the role of India’s secondary steel sector, which remains an important part of the country’s steel ecosystem and contributes significantly to domestic supply and recycling.
Innovation will be another focus area, with startups, scale-ups and technology providers showcasing solutions aimed at improving efficiency, reducing emissions and optimising resource use across steel production and processing.
Discussions will also examine value-added and speciality steels, including stainless steel and advanced grades that are increasingly required in sectors such as renewable energy, defence, advanced manufacturing and urban infrastructure.
The event will see participation from leading public and private sector companies such as Steel Authority of India, NMDC, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, AM/NS India and the Adani Group, along with global mining majors including BHP, among others. Companies and delegations from countries including Russia, Australia, Germany, Argentina and Brazil are also expected to attend.
By bringing together industry leaders and policymakers from across the world, Bharat Steel 2026 aims to strengthen global cooperation across the steel value chain. As India expands its steelmaking capacity and deepens its role in international markets, the event is expected to serve as a platform for investment discussions, technology partnerships and long-term industry collaboration.
