Body of Swechchhasebak League leader’s wife recovered
Police have recovered the body of a housewife named Umme Sijjil Ifti (22) from the Alo Mela residential area of Kishoreganj town. She is the wife of Swechchhasebak League leader Momtaz Mukul. The body was recovered last Sunday (March 1) night and was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj for autopsy on Monday afternoon.
Momtaz Mukul is the president of Mushulli Union Swechchhasebak League in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district. Police and local sources have informed that Momtaz Mukul has two wives. Out of these, the second wife Ifti lived with her husband in a rented house in Alo Mela in Kishoreganj town. The first wife teaches in a government primary school. She lives with her children in a house on Janata Road in Goital area of Kishoreganj town.
According to sources, Mukul used to stay with Ifti most of the time. However, they often quarreled. Last Sunday night, local residents heard their quarrel. At one point in the night, neighbors saw Ifti hanging from the window with a rope.
Upon receiving the information, the police broke down the door and recovered Ifti’s body. Her husband was not at home at the time. Ifti’s husband Mukul has been taken into police custody for questioning on Monday. Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said that initially it is believed to be a suicide. The body has been sent to the morgue. In addition, Ifti’s husband Mukul has been taken into police custody for questioning.
