Jamaat Ameer urges not to be misled by campaign
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that a special group is hacking social media and spreading false information to tarnish the party’s election campaign. Based on that, he alleged that incorrect and misleading information is being spread on social media about Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s position on women.
In a post on his verified Facebook page this Sunday (February 1) morning, he said, “False and misleading information is being spread on social media to misrepresent our position. I am sharing this to clarify our values and refocus the discussion on our policies.” The Jamaat Ameer said, “Our manifesto has been clear from day one. We want women to play an active and respectable role in education, healthcare, administration, entrepreneurship and public service.” We are committed to uninterrupted education for girls, safe campuses, zero tolerance against harassment, women-centric healthcare in every district, equal pay, safe workplaces, childcare support and skills training for decent employment.
The Jamaat Ameer further said, “We support women’s leadership in politics and local government, economic empowerment of rural women, strong legal protection and social dignity. These are not new positions. I had publicly articulated these principles a few months ago and reiterated them at the ‘Policy Conference’ held on January 20. These are not a response to rumours or online pressure, but rather a reflection of a long-standing consistent vision.”
He said, “Judge me by my record, policies and my manifesto, not by false narratives. On February 3, I will formally release my manifesto, which will detail all these commitments. Our commitments are realistic and measurable, safe education for girls, equal opportunities in the workplace, women-centric healthcare, strong legal protection, economic dignity and real leadership for women.” The Jamaat Ameer concluded the post by saying, “Showing respect for women is a hallmark of a progressive Bangladesh and Jamaat is working to build that future.”
