45 Rohingyas arrested in army operation
The upazila administration and police, led by the army, have arrested 45 illegal Rohingyas in a special operation in different areas of Lohagara upazila of Chittagong, adjacent to Cox’s Bazar. During this, fake national identity cards were recovered from them. The Ramu Army of Cox’s Bazar made this announcement through a press release on Friday (January 30) night.
The press release said that based on intelligence information, Lohagara Army Camp and Putibila Army Camp, Upazila Administration and Lohagara Police Station jointly conducted a special operation in Thakurdighi and Ujirvita areas of Lohagara upazila last night. During this, 45 Rohingyas living illegally in the said area were arrested. Among the arrested Rohingyas, 28 are men, 8 are women and 15 are children. The Executive Magistrate of Lohagara Upazila and Assistant Commissioner Bhumi were present during the operation.
Later, the arrested Rohingyas were handed over to Lohagara Police Station. The press release further stated that a search was conducted at the house of a person on charges of providing national identity cards to illegally residing Rohingyas. During the search, several SIM cards, multiple National Identity Cards (NIDs), photocopies of National Identity Cards and photocopies of FCN cards were recovered from his house. Currently, an investigation is underway at Lohagara Police Station regarding the persons involved in making such fake national identity cards.
