Cases against 734 people in Sherpur Jamaat leader’s murder case
A case has been filed against 734 people at Jhenaigati Police Station in connection with the killing of Sribardi Upazila Jamaat Secretary Maulana Rezaul Karim in a BNP-Jamaat clash in Sherpur. Marzia, wife of deceased Maulana Rezaul Karim, filed the case at Jhenaigati Police Station on Friday (January 30) night. 234 people and 500 others have been named as unknown accused in the case. District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter. However, no official statement was received from the district police in this regard.
The deceased Maulana Rezaul Karim was an Arabic lecturer at Fatehpur Fazil Madrasa and was also serving as the imam of a local mosque. It is worth mentioning that on Wednesday (January 28) afternoon, the Jhenaigati Upazila administration invited the rival candidates of different parties to the election manifesto reading ceremony. Suddenly, some local BNP and Jamaat workers and supporters started arguing over chairs. At one point, a clash broke out between the two sides, resulting in over a hundred people being injured. Later, local people rescued the injured, including Rezaul Karim, and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex and District Sadar Hospital. When his condition deteriorated there, Rezaul Karim died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
