Baltic dry index declines on weak Capesize performance despite gains in Panamax
The Baltic dry index dropped by 2.95% (54 points) d-o-d to 1,776 on 7 Jan’26. The index fell mainly due to a sharp drop in Capesize rates caused by weaker iron ore and coal demand, fixtures at lower levels, excess vessel availability, and early-year seasonal softness.

- Capesize: BCI went down 4.58% (138 points) to 2,878.
- Panamax: BPI rose by 1% (13 points) to 1,317.
- Supramax: BSI lowered by 1.78% (18 points) to 993.
