Woman commits suicide in police custody
A woman in Comilla has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. The incident took place late on Thursday (December 18) inside Homna police station. The deceased, Hamida Akhter Babita (32), is the wife of Khalil Mia, a resident of Ghanirchar village in Homna upazila. Homna police station OC Mohammad Morshed Alam Chowdhury confirmed the incident.
According to police and local sources, Khalil Mia’s two wives are Hamida Akhter and Kohinur Akhter. There was a fight between the two Satins on Wednesday afternoon. At one point, Hamida tried to attack the elder Satin Kohinur with a knife, but her son Saymon (12) went to save his mother. Hamida then stabbed her in the stomach and pulled out her umbilical cord and intestines.
At that time, hearing Kohinoor Akhter’s screams, the people around came and rescued the injured Simon and took him to the Homna Upazila Health Complex. There, the doctor on duty provided him with primary education and sent him to Dhaka for advanced treatment. On the other hand, the locals arrested Hamida and informed the police. The police went to the spot and arrested Hamida, brought her to the police station and kept her in a room. Later, taking the opportunity at night, the arrested Hamida committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan with a veil around her neck. Meanwhile, the locals are asking why the accused was not arrested but kept in a separate room? Such questions are going around everywhere. When asked for details from Homna Police Station OC Mohammad Morshed Alam Chowdhury, he said that the magistrate is coming, details will be informed later.
