Allegations of attack on BNP leaders and activists against A. League in Madaripur
In Shibchar, Madaripur, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman was distributing 31-point leaflets on repairing the state structure, while Awami League members were allegedly attacking the party and its associate organization leaders and activists with the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. At least 20 people were injured in the incident. The attack took place near the Municipal Building-2 in the Charshamail area of Shibchar at around 8 pm today (August 11). Locals said that Madaripur BNP leader Sajjad Hossain Lavlu Siddiqui and leaders and activists of his affiliated organization went out to distribute 31-point leaflets in the evening. While distributing leaflets at a place called ‘Kazi’s Shop’ in the Charshamail area of Shibchar Municipality, BNP leaders and activists had an argument with Shibchar Union Parishad Chairman and Awami League leader Babul Fakir’s son and Chhatra League leader Suman Fakir. At one stage, local Awami League leaders and activists, shouting the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ and armed with country-made weapons, attacked the leaflet distributors. Several motorcycles were vandalized during this time and at least 20 people were injured. The injured were rescued and admitted to the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. Four people in critical condition were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Upon receiving the information, Shibchar Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. In this regard, Shibchar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakibul Islam said that upon receiving the information, a team of Shibchar Police reached the spot. The injured were admitted to Shibchar Hospital. The matter is being investigated. Police have been deployed in the area.
