July Uprising is the biggest event in political history after independence: Nahid
National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said that the July 24 uprising is the biggest event in Bangladesh’s political history after the independence struggle. He said this at a rally in Netrokona on Sunday (July 27) as part of the NCP’s July Padyatra. Nahid Islam said that the previous fascist government had taken away the rights of the people of the country. The students and the public took to the streets against that government and ensured their downfall by staging an uprising. He said that we have been demanding a new constitution and reforms. A Constituent Assembly election is necessary for the constitution. He further said that the NCP will work to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, including working against Mujibism and Indian hegemony. Our goal is to ensure the people’s rights to education, health and employment in order to build a public welfare state. Addressing the new generation, Nahid said, “The NCP has been formed for the youth. We will build a beautiful Bangladesh with the youth.” He also called on the NCP to act as guardians for the elders and provide help and advice.
