Husband and wife killed in pickup truck crash in Jatrabari
A husband and wife were killed when a pickup van hit them while crossing the road in Jatrabari in the capital. Their daughter was injured.
The accident occurred at around 7 am on Monday, opposite the Matuail Saddam Market in Jatrabari.
The deceased were Abdul Jabbar and his wife Runa Akhter. Their daughter Jui Akhter (14) is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital with serious injuries.
It is learnt that the deceased lived in Demra Konapara area of the capital. Their village is in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur.
Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Mahmudul Hasan Irfan told the media, “This morning, a speeding pickup van hit them while crossing the road. Runa Akhter died on the spot. Her husband, Abdul Jabbar, later died at a local hospital.
She added, “The pickup van was seized after the accident, but the driver fled. An investigation is underway.”
