Popular content creator Ripon Mia accused of rape
Popular content creator Ripon Mia of Dakshin Bishiura Union in Netrokona Sadar Upazila has been accused of raping a seventh-grade schoolgirl (14).
A mediation was held at the BNP office in Nandura Bazar, Ward No. 3 of Dakshin Bishiura Union on Monday night (August 3). Ripon Mia has admitted his guilt. It is learned that the mediation resulted in a fine of Tk 5 lakh and a decision to leave the village. Ripon Mia is the son of Moktal Hossain of Dakshin Bishiura village. He is the second of five siblings. He is a carpenter by profession. Ripon Mia has been known as a popular content creator on social media for several years.
According to local sources, Ripon Mia has been accused of raping a teenage girl from his own area. The girl’s family claims that Ripon often harassed the girl. On Thursday night, around 8 pm, Ripon tricked the girl into coming out of the house while she was cooking in the backyard and raped her. Later, two local residents who witnessed the incident accused him of giving them 50,000 taka. Later, when the matter came to light, the locals organized an arbitration at the BNP office in Ward No. 3 of Nandura Bazar in South Bishiura Union to resolve the matter. Ripon Mia was present at the arbitration.
Local sources further said that BNP leaders Abdul Hai Munshi, Ataur Rahman, local Jamaat leaders Joynal Abedin, Daulat Mia and other locals, led by former central BNP president Fazlur Rahman, sat in an arbitration at the BNP office in Ward No. 3 on Sunday night. Ripon Mia admitted his guilt in the arbitration. Later, he was fined 5 lakh taka. The deadline for paying the fine was set within 5 days.
In a video of the arbitration that went viral on social media, Ripon Mia can be seen saying in front of everyone, ‘Even if it is my fault, it will be there, even if it is not. I will accept everyone’s decision.’ At that time, he (Ripon) was also seen holding the feet of the elders present at the arbitration and apologizing.
District NCP central organizer Md. Sohag Mia Pritam wrote on social media, ‘What Ripon Mia of ‘Ripon Video’ did, rape or immoral relationship, falls under the scope of criminal offense. Call the police with proper evidence and take him to the police station. Let him be jailed and fined. But sitting in the party office of the ruling party’s political party and showing arrogance to try a criminal offense is a bad example of taking the law into his own hands….’
Former president of the union BNP, who participated in the arbitration, Fazlur Rahman said, the girl is from a very poor family. Ripon formed a relationship with the girl by showing greed for money. We have come to know that the incident was not a case of forced rape. The girl’s family does not even have the capacity to file a case. Therefore, the locals have settled the matter through arbitration.
When asked whether the criminal case can be settled through arbitration, he said, this has been done considering the girl’s poor family. Meanwhile, Ripon Mia has been in hiding since Sunday night. His mobile phone is also switched off. Netrokona Model Police Station OC Md. Abul Khair said, no complaint has been filed with the police station in this incident. After receiving the news of the incident, we sent police to the area. Investigation is underway and legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
