Schoolboy killed in clash over football game in Bogra
A 10th grade schoolboy, Jamil Sheikh (16), was killed while trying to stop a dispute over a football game in Sherpur, Bogra. Police have arrested the main accused in the murder, Shakil Ahmed (22).
This information was given by Sherpur Police Station Inspector Zainul Abedin on Tuesday (August 4) afternoon. Earlier, the incident took place on Monday (August 3) evening at the Sherua Adarsh High School ground in Shahbandegi Union of the upazila. Police and local sources said that the deceased Jamil Sheikh is the son of Rafiqul Islam of Sherua Dahapara village in Shahbandegi Union of Sherpur Upazila of Bogra. He was a 10th grade student of Bogra Palli Unnayan Academy Laboratory School.
Yesterday, Monday afternoon, a football game was going on between local teenagers and youths at the Sherua Adarsh High School ground. At one stage of the game, tension arose due to an argument between the players around 6 pm. At that time, Jamil Sheikh tried to mediate between the two parties to calm the situation. Allegedly, Shakil Ahmed, the manager of a chatal in the same area and son of Shafiqul Islam, attacked Jamil. Jamil fell to the ground after being kicked, punched and beaten by him. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Inspector Zainul Abedin of Sherpur Police Station said that the murder took place due to a dispute over a football game. The deceased’s father has filed a case against four people including Shakil and eight other unidentified persons. The main accused Shakil was arrested in a raid on Monday night.
He also said that the body of the deceased Jamil has been recovered and sent to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMEC) Hospital morgue for autopsy. The police operation is continuing to arrest the other accused in this case.
