Bangladesh Ambassador meets Libyan Home Minister
Bangladesh Ambassador to Libya Major General Md. Habib Ullah met with Libyan Home Minister Major General Imad Mustafa Al-Tarabulusi.
The meeting, held at the office of the Libyan Home Minister on Tuesday (July 28) local time, discussed the overall welfare and security of Bangladeshi citizens living in Libya, voluntary repatriation, prevention of illegal immigration, increasing communication and cooperation between law enforcement agencies of both countries, and various issues of mutual interest.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Home Minister welcomed the ambassador and mentioned the deep and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Libya. He said that Bangladeshi workers have earned the trust of the Libyan people through their honesty, efficiency and hard work.
At the same time, he highlighted the Libyan government’s priority in preventing illegal migration and ensuring the legal status of expatriate citizens through voluntary repatriation. In this context, he expressed hope that in the future, more Bangladeshi workers would take up employment opportunities in Libya through regular and legal migration processes.
The Ambassador thanked the Minister and said that Bangladeshi citizens continue to make significant contributions to Libya’s services, construction and other important sectors. He expressed his sincere gratitude for the initiatives taken by the Libyan Government of National Unity for the voluntary repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens.
At the same time, he sought the Minister’s cooperation in the speedy repatriation of Bangladeshi citizens currently awaiting voluntary repatriation. In response, the Minister assured that Bangladeshi citizens would be given priority in the Libyan Government’s voluntary repatriation program. During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the various steps taken by the Bangladesh government to curb irregular migration and expressed his interest in close coordination and cooperation with the Libyan law enforcement agencies in this regard.
He emphasized on increasing communication, exchange of experiences and organizing mutual visits between the security and law enforcement agencies of both countries. He also sought the continued cooperation of the Libyan law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of Bangladeshi citizens living in Libya, assisting in the welfare of Bangladeshis detained in various detention centers, and rescuing kidnapped and hostage Bangladeshi citizens.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest and agreed to continue regular communication and coordination to further strengthen the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and Libya.
