30 killed in armed attack in Nigeria

At least 30 people were killed and four others injured in an armed attack on a village in Nigeria’s northwestern Kaduna state. The attack took place late on Monday (July 27), local residents told international media.
The village chief’s secretary, Dogon Rana, said gunmen entered the village of Naridon and opened fire indiscriminately and set houses on fire. Eight children were among the dead.
Violence by armed groups and other criminal gangs has long posed a major security crisis in parts of Nigeria’s northwestern and north-central regions. Local towns are often the target of deadly attacks by these groups. On the other hand, armed activities by the militant group Boko Haram and its splinter group ISWAP continue in the northeast of the country. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Kaduna state so far.
Local youth leader Ishaya Dawa said the attackers entered Naridon village in Kawru Local Government Area of ​​Kaduna State shortly before midnight and opened fire on residents. He said some were hacked to death and many bodies have already been taken to the morgue.
Dawa said the dead included women, children and the elderly. The attackers set fire to several houses before fleeing. He added that security forces arrived at the scene the morning after the attack. Kaduna State Police spokesman Mansur Hassan said details of the incident would be released soon.
