Two killed in separate clashes in Sylhet

Two people were killed in two separate violent incidents in Sylhet on the same day. Among them, a schoolboy was stabbed to death by miscreants at the city’s Kazirbazar Bridge and a youth was killed in a clash over a land dispute in Hatkhola Union of Sadar Upazila.
Rifat Ahmed (15) was stabbed to death by miscreants on Monday (July 27) evening while returning from playing football with his classmates at the Dakshin Surma Indoor Stadium located at the southern end of Kazirbazar Selfie Bridge in the city.
Rifat is the only son of Misbah Uddin and a ninth-grade student of Dwip Shikha High School in the area next to Darus Salam Madrasa in Khasdavi. Three other teenage classmates who were with Rifat—Rabiul Hasan (16), Sabbir (16) and Samiul (16)—were seriously injured in the same incident and are undergoing treatment at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Regarding the incident, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Kotwali Police Station OC Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir said that since the incident falls under the jurisdiction of South Surma Police Station, the police there are investigating. On the other hand, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) said that South Surma Police Station is actively investigating the entire matter.
However, attempts were made to contact South Surma Police Station OC Md. Ashraf Uzzaman to find out about this, but he did not pick up the phone. On the same day, Md. Abdullah (25) was seriously injured in an attack with a country-made weapon by the family of neighbor Morabbir Ali over cutting bamboo from a disputed bamboo grove in Dighirpar village of Hatkhola union in Sylhet Sadar upazila. He died while undergoing treatment at Osmani Medical College Hospital around 8 pm.
The deceased Abdullah is the son of local Faruk Ahmed Badula. Local sources and the family of the deceased said that on Monday morning, during a scuffle over a long-standing land dispute, the opposing party attacked Abdullah and several others from both sides with sharp weapons, injuring them. Abdullah died of excessive bleeding while undergoing treatment at the hospital. In this regard, Jalalabad Police Station OC Md. Shamsul Habib said that the police quickly reached the spot after receiving information about the clash over a previous dispute. The body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy. Although no written complaint has been received in this incident yet, the police are conducting a strict operation and legal process to arrest those involved.
