Housewife commits suicide by drinking pesticide in Barhatta
A housewife committed suicide by drinking pesticide to kill ants in Barhatta, Netrokona. The incident took place last Saturday (July 25) afternoon in Purba Mauti village of Bausi union of the upazila. The deceased, Amit Akter (18), is the daughter of Khorshed Alam of Purba Mauti village.
According to family sources, she fell in love about five to six months ago and married Shakib of Banyenpara village of neighboring Raipur union. Shakib works in agriculture in Munshiganj. Family members said that there was a family dispute between them after she recently expressed her desire to go to Munshiganj with her husband.
Relatives said that while she was at her father’s house around 2 pm last Saturday, she drank pesticide to kill ants that she had bought about 10 days ago. Upon learning about the matter, her mother Sharifa Akter quickly took her to the Barhatta Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Kamrunnahar, a doctor at the emergency department of Barahatta Upazila Health Complex, said, “Akhter was brought to the hospital at around 3 pm. He also had a can of insecticide to kill ants with him. Despite the necessary treatment and attempts to wash his stomach, he could not be saved. He died at 3:40 pm due to excessive poisoning. In this regard, Barahatta Police Station OC Champak Bandh said that the autopsy report has been prepared. The process of sending the body to the Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy is underway. Necessary legal action is being taken in this incident.
