Wife alleges drug use and immoral relationship against Additional Police Superintendent Arif

Joypurhat Sadar Circle Additional Police Superintendent Md. Arif Hossain’s wife Shamia Khan Esha has accused him of drug use, immoral relationship with multiple women, dowry demands and torture. She has demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations and strict legal action against the accused officer.
Esha made these allegations at a press conference organized at the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) auditorium in the capital at around 11 am today (July 26). At the press conference, she said that she got married to Md. Arif Hossain on July 19, 2019. During the wedding, her family gave furniture and other gifts worth about 20 lakh taka as much as they could afford. In addition, gifts worth about 1.48 lakh taka were given, including gold jewelry, valuable watches and diamond rings.
She said, “Initially after marriage, our family was normal. Due to my job, I lived in Chittagong, Rajshahi and Joypurhat. They had a daughter on October 31, 2020. The girl is now about five and a half years old.”
Isha ​​alleged that she noticed a change in her husband’s behavior shortly after marriage. He started consuming alcohol and drugs regularly and got involved in various immoral activities. She further claimed that her husband had immoral relationships with multiple women. She further said that she has various types of evidence, including videos, in this regard.
She further alleged that in her absence, different women were brought to the house. Sometimes he would drink alcohol with friends and associate with women. When he protested about these matters, he was regularly physically and mentally tortured.
Isha ​​said at the press conference that at one point, he developed a relationship with a woman named Kamrun Jahan Bithi and continued that relationship by bringing her to his house. When he tried to take legal action in this regard at Rampura police station, the level of the case… the torture on him increased further.
She alleged that later her husband demanded 4 million taka as dowry. To run the family, her parents sold their village land and gave the money through cash and bank checks. With that money, a Premio car was bought for 12 million taka without documents. Along with this, she bought land in Purbachal and started a luxurious life. Even then, she alleged that another 5 million taka was demanded as dowry.
Esha said, on the late night of January 9, I was beaten up multiple times in a rented house in Joypurhat for demanding dowry. At that time, my little daughter was also beaten up. Later, when I was thrown out of the house, I took shelter in a house next door. Then I sought treatment at the local Sadar Hospital.
She said that with the help of the police administration, they were taken to the police station and given seven-day security. At that time, the Superintendent of Police advised her to take legal action against her husband. She also said, Arif is not there at present. He is not providing any kind of maintenance to me and my daughter, nor is he even keeping track of them. Rather, he is trying to divorce me by implicating me in extramarital affairs.
At the press conference, she claimed that on May 30, she saw her husband intoxicated with a woman at the house of a friend named ‘Babu’ in the Basila area of ​​Mohammadpur, Dhaka. When he protested, he hit her on the head with his mobile phone. This caused blood to flow from her head and she lost consciousness. She then filed a written complaint with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), which was received at the police headquarters on June 7.
She further said that she had also filed written complaints with the IGP, DIG of Rajshahi Range and Superintendent of Police of Joypurhat. Besides, she filed a criminal case (No. 696/2026) in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on July 5 regarding the torture incident. She claimed that the torture images, audio records, videos, messages, drug videos were leaked. The information and other digital data were submitted to the court through a pen drive.
Esha alleged that after learning about the case, Arif misused his power and filed a case against her and her parents at Joypurhat Sadar Police Station on July 9. Since then, they have been harassed in various ways and witnesses have been threatened with being framed in false cases.
She said, “I and my family are currently in extreme insecurity.” She expressed fear that it would not be possible to get a fair trial as the accused officer is still in office. Therefore, she demanded his removal or dismissal from his current position and an impartial investigation into the allegations.
At the end of the press conference, Shamia Khan Esha said, “I was the wife of a police officer. I believed that he would uphold the law. But today I myself am seeking justice by taking refuge in the law. My appeal to the country’s media, human rights organizations, Bangladesh Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Justice Department is to ensure an impartial investigation into my allegations and take appropriate legal action against the guilty person.”
