Bomb inside umbrella under Motijheel Metrorail station, police defuse it
An improvised explosive device (IED) has been recovered from inside an umbrella under the capital’s Motijheel Metrorail station. The bomb disposal team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit recovered and defused it.
On receiving information on Friday evening (July 24), the police quickly reached the spot, surrounded the area and informed the DMP’s bomb disposal unit. According to sources, the device was made in such a way that it would explode if the umbrella button was pressed.
Ansar members on duty at the metro station said that a Rath Yatra was heading towards Shapla Chattar at around 6 pm. Then a Rath Yatra member told them about an umbrella lying on the road. As soon as they grabbed the umbrella, they saw a red light inside. The Ansar members left the umbrella there and informed the police. After the police arrived and confirmed the matter, they closed the road and informed the bomb disposal unit. The bomb disposal unit later arrived and recovered the bomb and defused it.
