Chittagong: An armed attack, vandalism and looting of money have taken place at the office of Internet service provider Digital.Net (DDN) located in Chandanpura Access Road area of ​​Chawkbazar police station in the city.
The incident took place today, Monday (July 13) at around 12:15 pm. The company’s Head of Sales Md. Rakib told Banglanews, “Two-three days ago, our owner was called and demanded a ransom of Tk 20 million. It was said to be paid Tk 50 lakh every month.
However, we did not attach importance to the matter at that time. We did not think it was a real threat as we received calls from different places at different times. Today, a group of people suddenly came to our office and vandalized it.” He added, “Today was the day of salary payment at our company.” There was about Tk 35 lakh in cash in the office. The attackers fled with that money. Around 12:15 pm on Monday, about 40 masked and armed men suddenly entered the office and committed widespread vandalism. The attackers destroyed valuable equipment and furniture and intimidated the employees before leaving.
Upon receiving the information, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) South Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Habibur Rahman and Chawkbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Hossain Mamun visited the scene.
OC Nur Hossain Mamun told Banglanews that they are investigating who was involved in the attack. Various information and data, including CCTV footage, have been collected from the scene. The police are working to identify and arrest those involved. Legal action is in the process of being taken in this incident.
