Big bad news for Dhaka and 6 divisions

Due to continuous heavy rain for several days, flood situation has arisen in different parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office’s warning regarding heavy rain has said that due to the influence of active monsoon winds, heavy (44-88 mm/24 hours) to very heavy (88 mm/24 hours) rainfall may occur in some places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours from 12 noon today (July 12).
The continuous rain has submerged roads in different areas of the country including the capital and disrupted the communication system. Schools and colleges in different areas are closed. Low-income people are the most affected. Due to heavy rain, they are unable to go out in search of work. Due to very heavy rain, the flood situation in 12 districts of the country may further deteriorate. New areas may be flooded. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board (Pawbo) has made such a forecast on Sunday (July 12).
The Powbo said that the water of the Sangu river is flowing above the danger level at Bandarban and Dohazari (Chittagong) stations; the water is also flowing above the danger level at Markuli (Sunamganj) and Fenchuganj (Sylhet) stations of the Kushiyara river and Kalamkanda (Netrokona) stations of the Someshwari river.
Meanwhile, short-term flood conditions may occur or deteriorate slightly in the low-lying areas of Feni, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Mymensingh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram districts in the next two days. On the other hand, the flood situation may improve in the low-lying areas of the Sangu, Matamuhuri in Bandarban, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar districts and the Manu, Khowai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts in the next 24 hours.
Today, the rainfall and river situation and forecast information signed by Assistant Engineer Mostafa Kamal Jihan of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center has been released. It said that the water level is above the danger level at Bandarban and Dohazari of the Sangu River, Markuli and Fenchuganj of the Kushiyara River, and Kalmakanda point of the Someshwari River. According to the forecast, the water level of the Muhuri, Feni, Selonia and Halda rivers of Feni, Chittagong and Khagrachari may cross the danger level at some places in the next two days and short-term flooding may occur in low-lying areas along the river banks. During this time, some low-lying areas of Lakshmipur and Noakhali are also likely to be temporarily flooded.
