US strikes 140 Iranian targets
The United States has carried out its third round of strikes on Iran this week. According to a report by Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera, the US Central Command (Centcom) reported on Sunday (July 12) that the latest strike hit 140 targets in Tehran.
The US Central Command (Centcom) said that the third round of strikes on Iran this week has ended. According to them, the strikes were carried out to hold Iranian forces accountable for the recent attack on a Cyprus-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
Centcom claimed that the latest strike hit about 140 military targets. These included Iranian missile and drone bases, naval capabilities, ammunition depots, communications networks and coastal surveillance centers. In addition, Centcom said that more than 300 targets were hit in the three rounds of strikes carried out over the past three nights.
They claim that the operation was aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to attack commercial and civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM also said that since the beginning of May, more than 800 commercial ships carrying 400 million barrels of oil have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz with the assistance of US forces.
