Schoolboy drowns in Chuadanga

A 10th-grade student, Mohammad Saim (15), drowned while fishing in Notun Bastpur village of Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. His body was recovered from the Kadipur Moragang Beel of the upazila at around 7:30 pm on Friday (July 10). Saim is the son of Md. Shariful Islam of Notun Bastpur village. He was a 10th-grade student of Damurhuda Pilot High School.
Locals said that Saim had gone fishing in Shamra field with his uncles yesterday morning. He drowned when he went down to Moragang Beel around noon. Later, relatives and locals could not find him and informed the fire brigade. Later, a diving team of the fire brigade reached the spot in the afternoon and started a rescue operation. After a continuous operation of about an hour and a half, Saim’s body was recovered at around 7:30 pm.
Sheikh Mejbah Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said that the body was handed over to the relatives after completing the legal process as there was no complaint from the family.
