Under the influence of low pressure and strong monsoon winds across the country, rainfall is increasing rapidly and river water is rising rapidly in the northern, northeastern and southeastern parts of the country. This may inundate the low-lying areas of the relevant districts. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has made such a forecast today, Tuesday (July 7).
The BWDB said that short-term flooding may occur in low-lying areas along the river banks in some places in Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Chittagong and Khagrachari districts; and temporary flooding may occur in some places in low-lying areas along the river banks in Lakshmipur and Noakhali districts.
In addition, short-term flooding may occur in some low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Netrokona, Sherpur and Mymensingh districts within the next 24 to 72 hours. On the other hand, the water of the Teesta River may flow above the danger level in the next 24 to 48 hours and short-term flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.
