Explosions in Syria during Macron’s visit

An explosive device exploded in the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday (July 7). A security source said the explosions occurred near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was supposed to stay. Roads in the area were closed and security was tightened after the explosion.
A Reuters witness said he heard an explosion in the area. Smoke was later seen rising from the scene. Macron is the first European Union (EU) leader to visit Damascus since the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
