7 sentenced to death in Jamalpur gang rape case

The court has sentenced 7 accused to death in the gang rape of a housewife in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur. At the same time, they have been fined Tk 1 lakh each. One accused has been acquitted in this case.
Today, Monday (July 6) at 3 pm, Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Jamalpur Women and Child Abuse Prevention ‘Tribunal-1’ announced the verdict. Rashedur Rahman alias Pappu, Biju Mia, Badsha Mia, Jewel Mia, Ashraful Islam, Jasim and Asmat were sentenced to death. On the other hand, the court acquitted Idris Ali as the charges were not proven.
State lawyer Advocate Md. Fazlul Haque said that on the night of May 25 last year, a housewife was abducted from Nilakhia area of ​​Bakshiganj upazila and taken to an abandoned house and gang raped. Later, based on the victim’s complaint, a case was filed at Bakshiganj Police Station under the Women and Children Abuse and Atrocities Act. He further said that out of a total of 9 witnesses in the case, 7 testified in the court. After reviewing the medical report, evidence and other evidence, the court sentenced each of the 7 accused to death and fined them 1 lakh taka as the charges were proven beyond doubt. Idris Ali was acquitted as the charges were not proven. The state party expressed satisfaction with the verdict.
