Former Awami League MP arrested
The court has arrested former Awami League MP Afzal Hossain from Kishoreganj-5 constituency in the explosives act case of Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate issued this order on Monday (July 6) following the application of the investigating officer. The investigating officer presented the accused in court and requested to show him arrested. In the application filed with the court, the investigating officer mentioned that the initial investigation has found primary evidence of Afzal Hossain’s involvement in the incident. Therefore, it is necessary to show him arrested in the interest of a fair investigation.
The case alleges that a fire at Bangabazar Market in the capital on April 4, 2023 caused a loss of about Tk 500 crore. Md. Kamal Hossain Ripon filed the case as the plaintiff in this incident. The case names 17 people including Afzal Hossain and 20-30 other unidentified people as accused.
