Iran to close airspace for Khamenei’s final farewell
Iran will completely close its airspace on Monday (July 6) as part of security and preparations for the final farewell ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s student news agency (ISNA) reported.
Although air traffic was normal during the funeral and final farewell ceremony on Sunday (July 5), the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran said that regular flights at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport and Imam Khomeini International Airport will be suspended today during the public mourning in the capital.
Normal operations at Mehrabad International Airport will resume tomorrow (July 7). However, Imam Khomeini International Airport will remain closed for some time. Authorities also said that the airspace over the northeastern city of Mashhad will also be completely closed on July 9 for the final burial ceremony. All operations at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport will also be suspended that day.
However, air traffic in other parts of Iran will remain normal on July 7 and 8. As it is the last day of the event, no flights to Mashhad will be operated.
