Speaker pays tribute to Khamenei on behalf of Bangladesh
Speaker of the National Assembly Hafizuddin Ahmad Bir Bikram paid tribute to the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on behalf of Bangladesh. The speaker prayed for the peace of Khamenei’s departed soul in this solemn ceremony held at the Grand Masalla in the country’s capital Tehran.
Hafizuddin Ahmad also met with Iranian President Masoud Pazhoqian and other high-ranking leaders. He expressed sympathy and condolences to the bereaved Iranian nation on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh. Later, the speaker signed the condolence book kept there.
Earlier, Hafizuddin Ahmad arrived in Tehran to attend the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was warmly welcomed at the airport by Iran’s Deputy Speaker Hamid Reza Haji Babai. Later, on Friday, the Speaker held a bilateral meeting with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran. During the meeting, he condemned the brutal assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader and reiterated the centuries-old friendship, deep cultural and diplomatic relations between Iran and Bangladesh.
Hafizuddin Ahmed highly appreciated Ghalibaf’s constructive role in implementing the peace agreement recently signed between Iran and the United States. He expressed hope that the agreement would bring lasting peace, stability and prosperity to the entire region, including Iran. He expressed hope that Bangladesh would continue to support this peace process and that all issues would be resolved permanently through dialogue and diplomacy. At the meeting, Hafizuddin Ahmed formally invited Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at an opportune time to maintain the momentum of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Iran.
The Speaker also met with Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Dunyamali, where the Iranian Sports Minister sought Bangladesh’s assistance in developing cricket in his country. He also said that he would convey this message to the State Minister of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh if he expressed interest in signing a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in the field of sports between the two countries. Later, the Speaker gave an interview to the Bangla department of Iran Radio, where he expressed his views on various bilateral and regional issues between Bangladesh and Iran and said that he would request the relevant government ministry to increase the services of the embassy for the Bangladeshi expatriates living in Iran.
